We're in the Sermon on the Mount and Jesus has just finished giving to his disciples a model prayer, the pinnacle of which is prayer for forgiveness. Then, almost as a commentary or emphasis by Matthew, these words are recorded by the Lord: "For if you do not forgive others...neither will your Father forgive you." What this means is that forgiveness is no small thing for God. It matters to Him. It matters a lot.
