On Earth as in Heaven
Throughout the history of the church major battles over doctrine have been focused, primarily, on the nature of God and salvation. Orthodoxy is what has come as a result of these battles. To be orthodox is to hold to the Biblical teachings in these critical areas of truth. In other words, the church has expended a lot of energy, and rightfully so, on what we should believe. Unfortunately, the Church has failed to expend the same amount of time and energy on how we should live. But the New Testament has even more to say about how we should live than it has to say about what we should believe. And no where in the pages of Scripture is there a more concise summary of how a follower of Jesus should live than in the Sermon on the Mount. This week we begin with an introduction to the Sermon on the Mount by understanding what Jesus called, “The Kingdom of Heaven.”
